A Minnesota State Trooper who killed a Black motorist during a traffic stop last year is back on the job after the Hennepin County Attorney dropped charges.

Ryan Londregan was charged in the shooting death of Ricky Cobb II during a traffic stop last summer. But those charges were recently dropped after the Hennepin County Attorney's office lost confidence in their case.

Despite returning to work, Londregan still faces a civil suit filed by Cobb's family. They accuse him and another trooper on the scene of using excessive force and unreasonable search and seizure, in violation of the constitution.

Londregan's attorney says they're in the process of trying to get that case dismissed, along with getting the trooper an award what they describe as "being the hero that he is."

Meanwhile, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, who was prosecuting the case, is facing a formal complaint filed by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association. The complaint alleges that Moriarty knowingly made false statements and tried to prejudice a jury during the now-closed murder and manslaughter case against Minnesota State Trooper Ryan Londregan.
