A Texas man is facing charges after police discovered human remains in his home. The remains are currently believed to be from his son, who died in 2018, police said.
According to the New Boston Police Department, David McMichael has been charged with abusing a corpse after police made the discovery.
McMichael, 67, was met by police at his home, approximately 150 miles northeast of Dallas, after receiving a call requesting a welfare check for a man living at the address.
Police said they asked McMichael if he knew why they were there, and his response was chilling.
“Mr. McMichael advised them it was because he had a body in his kitchen,” police said.
The officers found the skeletal remains of a male inside the home, and the 67-year-old told police that the body was his son, who had passed away in May 2018.
Police shared in a release that it was determined the body was “possibly” the man’s son, “Jason McMichael.”
However, this has not been confirmed as the corpse has been taken to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for an autopsy and identification process, authorities reported.
Public affairs officer Katie Jimenez shared with USA Today that they should “hopefully know what happened in the next couple of weeks."
McMichael is currently in Bi-State Jail in Texarkana, where he remains in custody.
