An explosion and fire at a Sherwin-Williams paint manufacturing and processing plant in Texas has resulted in at least one factory worker being injured, fire officials shared.

Firefighters were notified on Monday, shortly before 1:30 a.m., that the factory in Garland, Texas, was on fire, according to a Garland Fire Department public information officer who spoke with CNN.

The paint company released a statement on the fire, sharing that it was extinguished within a few hours of firefighters arriving at the scene.

“One employee suffered a minor injury and was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution and has since been released,” Julie Young, the company’s vice president of global corporate communications, shared.

Young shared in the statement that production at the site has since been suspended, and that an environmental assessment will be conducted when fire officials allow them to re-enter the site.

“We want to thank the first responders for assisting us and we will continue to work with the authorities as we complete our assessment,” Young said.

So far, a cause for the fire is not yet known, though the department has launched an investigation. The department also shared that it is monitoring the scene due to the chemicals inside the paint factory.

The statement from Sherwin-Williams noted that the plant is mainly used for manufacturing industrial coatings and resins.

The Garland Fire Department noted that residents within a mile of the factory reported hearing loud noises that may have been related to possible explosions at the factory.
