The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission has issued a warning for American parents about a previously-recalled product that is still causing devastating harm to children.

The three products in question – the Boppy Original Newborn Lounger, the Boppy Preferred Newborn Lounger, and the Pottery Barn Kids Boppy New Lounger – were recalled back in September 2021 after contributing to the deaths of eight infants.

The loungers were found to obstruct babies’ breathing if placed in a certain position. The loungers also did not stop the children from rolling off of them into dangerous positions.

Since the recall, the loungers have been illegal to sell, but the products are still being found and purchased at certain online retailers that didn’t comply with the recall, resulting in two more deaths.

The CPSC is once again renewing the recall to insure these unsafe products are removed from the marketplace.

The organization also emphasizes that “the best place for a baby to sleep is on a firm, flat surface in a crib, bassinet, or play yard.
Parents and caregivers should never add blankets, pillows, padded crib bumpers, or other items to an infant’s sleeping environment. Babies should always be placed to sleep on their backs.”
