Former President Donald Trump is planning on watching and doing a “Play by Play” of President Joe Biden’s upcoming State of the Union address.
Trump shared his plans in a post to his social media platform Truth Social on Wednesday, not clarifying what he exactly meant by “Play by Play.”
“I am pleased to inform you that tomorrow night we will be doing a LIVE, Play by Play, of Crooked Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address,” Trump said. “I will correct, in rapid response, any and all inaccurate Statements, especially pertaining to the Border and his Weaponization of the [Department of Justice], FBI, [attorney generals], and District Attorneys, to go after his Political Opponent, ME (something never done before in this Country!). We did this once before to tremendous success – Beating All Records. It is important for the Country to get the TRUTH!”
The announcement from Trump comes after he has all but secured the GOP nominee for the 2024 election, with no major challengers remaining.
However, his last major opponent, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, wasn’t quick to endorse Trump, instead saying on Wednesday after suspending her campaign that it would be up to Trump.
“It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party — and beyond it — who did not support him,” Haley said. “And I hope he does that.”
This isn’t the first time that Trump has planned on critiquing Biden’s State of the Union address, as he also said he would do the same last year.
When speaking about that speech, Trump said that if Biden did the speech properly, “and if Joe has just a modestly good night, this speech has the opportunity to rival any of the World’s great orators, including Lincoln, Washington, and, of course, the late, great, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Winston Churchill.”
So far, in every major poll, Biden has found himself coming in second to Trump when the two are paired in a hypothetical rematch.
A recent Wall Street Journal poll found that Trump would beat Biden 40% to 35%.
Biden has also addressed the rematch, which seems inevitable, sharing that he isn’t confident in Trump’s willingness to concede.
“Losers who are losers are never graceful,” Biden said to Evan Osnos of the New Yorker. “I just think that he’ll do anything to try to win. If — and when — I win, I think he’ll contest it. No matter what the result is.”
