Former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden may actually be agreeing on something, as Trump took to social media to post a two-word message following Biden’s remarks on Sunday afternoon.
“UNITED AMERICA!” Trump posted on his account minutes after Biden discussed the assassination attempt on the former president.
During his address to reporters, President Biden discussed the need for America to come together and to stop any further politically motivated violence.
He also revealed that he would be launching an independent review of the security apparatus while continuing to condemn the attack that injured Trump, killed one, and left two others in critical condition.
“It’s not who we are as a nation. It’s not America, and we cannot allow this to happen,” he said.
The gunman, identified by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, fired shots at Trump’s rally in the state on Saturday. He was neutralized by the Secret Service but not after piercing Trump’s ear with a bullet.
Earlier on Sunday, Trump posted a similar sentiment to what Biden touched on in his speech and confirmed that he would still be present at this week’s Republican National Convention.
“In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win,” Trump wrote. “I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin.”
