While at first he appeared to receive a boost in the polls following his indictment, the former president is now seeing his additional support fade, according to recent polls.

Released on Tuesday, a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll has found that what previously was former President Donald Trump’s biggest lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has now fallen by 10 points over the last two weeks.

In the weeks after his indictment, Trump appeared to be gaining traction with those in his party, as his fundraising numbers skyrocketed and several polls showed he was the clear favorite for the 2024 Republican nominee.

Trump was charged with 34 felony counts last month regarding falsifying business records related to an alleged “hush money” scheme.

Last weekend, Trump’s 2024 campaign shared that it has seen an increase in donations and contributions since the president was charged in New York. Finance reports filed by the campaign over the weekend shared that the former president had raised over $18 million during the first three months of 2023 and $34 million since he launched his campaign last November.

According to a report from the Associated Press, in the 24 hours after Trump was indicted by a New York grand jury, his campaign raised $4 million, almost 25% of his donations this year.

Yahoo News/YouGov found the same sentiment in a poll conducted 24 hours after Trump’s indictment, with the results showing Trump leading DeSantis 57% to 31%, the largest margin yet.

Now, the same survey, which finished this week, showed that the margin has fallen, with 52% favoring Trump and 36% favoring DeSantis in a head-to-head matchup.

When respondents were given the full field of possible Republican candidates, Trump’s support fell further, as 49% supported the former president, while 49% reported preferring “someone else.”

Since February, this was the first time that the former president was below 50% on that question, the pollsters noted.

The poll also found that 47% of respondents said they approve of him “being indicted for falsifying business records to conceal a hush money payment to a porn star.” This number is up five points from when the question was asked two weeks prior.

Even further, 48% of respondents said they think Trump did what he is being accused of, while 51% of voters think Trump committed a crime.

The poll was conducted from April 14 to 17 and included responses from 1,530 U.S. adults.
