Dallas police have arrested two men in connection with a homicide in Old East Dallas that made headlines earlier this week when authorities announced they wanted to question Dallas Cowboys defensive back Kelvin Joseph regarding the incident.

In a Saturday blog post, the Dallas Police Department said 28-year-old Aries Jones and 21-year-old Tivione English, of Baton Rouge, LA, were taken into custody in connection to the fatal shooting on Greenville Avenue.

In the early morning hours of March 18, Dallas police officers responded to a call in the Greenview Avenue area, where 20-year-old Cameron Ray was reportedly shot in front of the OT Tavern around 2 a.m. Ray later died from his injuries.

Joseph, 22, was reportedly involved in some capacity in an altercation near the 3600 block of Greenville on the same night.

According to police, “a preliminary investigation determined two groups, one including Ray, and another including the suspects, were near the intersection of Greenville and Martel Avenue when a fight broke out between the two groups.”

The fight lasted approximately two minutes before it was it was broken up. At that point, the group that included the suspects got into a black SUV parked at the curb. Then, as Ray and his friends were walking east on Martel Avenue, the black SUV drove by and people inside shot at the group, fatally striking Ray.

Joseph’s lawyer has said he was in the SUV – though he did not shoot – and the Dallas Cowboys said they were blindsided by the news.

“Further investigation by detectives identified Jones and English as the shooters,” said police, who did not mention Joseph in the Saturday blog post. “Jones and English turned themselves into Dallas Police and were taken to the Dallas County Jail.”
