After responding to a theft call, police arrested a woman in California last week when they found that she had stolen almost five dozen Stanley cups worth an estimated $2,500.

The Roseville Police Department shared the news in a post to Facebook, saying they had received a report of a theft at a store where employees “saw a woman take a shopping cart full of Stanley water bottles without paying for them.”

The staff allegedly tried to confront the 23-year-old woman as she made her way out of the store, but she refused to stop, police shared.

Officers later identified the woman’s vehicle while traveling on a nearby highway and quickly worked to pull her over and arrest her for grand theft.

While searching her vehicle, police found a whopping 65 Stanley cups, which totaled upwards of $2,500 in retail value.

Stanley cups range in price from $20 to $50 depending on size and have quickly become a phenomenon among shoppers thanks to recent trends online.

The success of the cups has been a boost to Stanley’s business, which saw annual sales jump from $75 million to $750 million in 2023 alone, according to Forbes.

Last month, shoppers went rabid over a special edition Valentine’s Day version of the cups that quickly sold out across the country and sparked some brawls inside the Target stores they were sold at.

Some of the cups were then sold for astronomical prices by resellers before Target put a buying limit on the tumblers.

“While Stanley Quenchers are all the rage, we strongly advise against turning to crime to fulfill your hydration habits,” the police said. “The Roseville Police Department remains committed to stopping retail theft.”
