Zelensky shares appreciation for numerous countries after Vance’s comments

After Vice President JD Vance accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of being ungrateful, the Ukrainian leader has shared numerous public statements thanking leaders from around the globe for their support.

On the social media site X, Zelensky has shared posts thanking the presidents of Switzerland, Finland, Estonia, Romania, Latvia, and the Netherlands, as well as posts thanking the prime ministers of the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Finland, and leaders from more countries.

Several of the posts featured videos and photos of supporters from those countries, while others just saw Zelensky write, “Thank you for your support.”

The posts came in the 24 hours after Zelensky left the White House following a fiery exchange with President Donald Trump and Vice President Vance.

During the exchange, Vance questioned Zelensky’s appreciation for the support that the United States had given his country throughout the three years his country had been fighting off Russia’s invasion.

After having gone back and forth, Vance shared his criticism of Zelensky and what he viewed as a lack of thankfulness.

“Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president of the United States of America, who is trying to save your country,” Vance said while pointing to Trump.

Vance continued to say, “Just say thank you,” before being cut off.

“I said it a lot of times to the American people,” Zelensky said.

The fiery exchange continued, and the meeting ended before it was really able to begin, as Zelensky shortly after left the White House.

However, in a statement on Friday, he made a point of thanking the United States for its support in fighting off Russia’s invasion.

“We are very grateful to the United States for all the support. I’m thankful to President Trump, Congress for their bipartisan support, and American people. Ukrainians have always appreciated this support, especially during these three years of full-scale invasion,” Zelensky wrote in the statement after leaving the White House.

“Our relationship with the American President is more than just two leaders; it’s a historic and solid bond between our peoples. That’s why I always begin with words of gratitude from our nation to the American nation,” he added in a separate post.

At this point, Zelensky and Trump are not scheduled to meet again, and it remains unclear if they will continue to negotiate for more assistance in the war.
