Alderwoman Sarah Martin resigns after passage of Prop R reforms

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- Proposition R is pushing an Alderperson off the Board.

St. Louis City Alderwoman Sarah Wood Martin has resigned. She released a statement saying the newly passed Proposition R means she can no longer represent the 11th Ward in the southeastern part of the City and keep her job with a lobbying firm.

"As a working mom who cares deeply about the example I set for my kids, I will not abandon my career or be forced out of my profession," she wrote.

Prop R prohibits possible conflicts of interest as well as turns over redistricting duties to a citizen's commission.

It also changes the name from the Board of Aldermen to the Board of Alderpersons.
