ST. LOUIS - Longtime baseball writer and historian Joe Posnanski has a new book coming out in September on baseball that will feature plenty of Cardinals moments.
Posnanski joined Total Information A.M. Wednesday to discuss his book 'Why We Love Baseball: A History in 50 Moments' which is set to be released on Sept. 5 and talks about the Cardinals moments in the book.
Posnanski says that some of the most well known Cardinals moments are in the book, like Game 6 of the 2011 World Series, Albert Pujols's mammoth home run off of Astros closer Brad Lidge, but there was another Cardinals moment that is in there but not as well known as the other two that he enjoyed the most.
"My favorite Cardinals moment in there was in 1954, Stan Musial hit five home runs in a doubleheader, the only baseball player at the time to do that," said Posnanski, "But what was really cool was that there was a there was a eight-year-old St. Louis kid by the name of Nate Colbert in the crowd. 18 years later, Colbert became the second person in baseball history to do that too. That was the poetry and magic of baseball right there."
Posnanski says he got lucky with a few moments and got interesting perspectives from people he didn't think to talk too, like talking to two-time MVP Dale Murphy about an moment where Ozzie Smith made an amazing defensive player when he was still with the San Diego Padres.
"I talked to Ozzie(Smith) about that moment," said Posnanski, "One day, I was talking to Dale Murphy about something entirely different, then the moment just came up and he told me 'You know I was at that game?' and he gave me a totally different perspective of that play and how great that was. I just seemed to get into lucky things like that just writing this book."
Posnanski also says that legendary Cardinals and KMOX radio broadcaster Jack Buck also makes some appearances throughout the book.
The book comes out Sept. 5 and you can purchase it on Amazon.
