SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - The Cardinals - and other major league teams - are dealing with the effects of the nearly 100-day lockout. Saint Louis pitchers Jack Flaherty and Alex Reyes have training camp issues involving their arms or shoulders, and a shortened time to get ready.

Sports pyschologist Doctor Erin Shannon says she feels for the players. "These guys are brilliant and they are brilliant about their body and their kinesthetic awareness and they know how to take care of themselves. But there have been things that typically would have been dealt with that have not been dealth with. Shannon was a guest on Saint Louis Talks.

Dr. Shannon is the daughter of Cardinal baseball legend Mike Shannon. She says this year's lockout may have lasting impacts on players. "We're going to see injuries, we're going to see all kinds of fall out because their system of how they train and how they take care of themselves and how they take prepare mentally and physically was drastically disrupted at a critical time."

The first spring training game for the Cardinals is Friday, March 18 at 12:05 pm against the Houston Astros on KMOX.
