On Wednesday, St. Louis City took part in its first MLS Super Draft as it prepares for its first season in Major League Soccer.
The expansion franchise chose Saint Louis University midfielder Johnny Klein with the first pick in the second round of the draft (No. 30 overall). Klein was the Billikens' leading scorer in 2022 helping Saint Louis to the Atlantic 10 Tournament title and a trip to the NCAA tournament. Klein visited with Kevin Wheeler, Amy Marxkors, and Chris Rongey on The Show Thursday afternoon.
"It was incredible. It is a dream come true to be drafted to what I consider my hometown. My whole family is from there so it is really special," Klein said.
Klein went to high school in Columbia, Missouri, but his father, grandfather and uncle all played soccer for the Billikens so he is well-versed on the St. Louis soccer scene and says he is excited for the MLS to begin play in the Gateway City.
