ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A group of Missouri doctors and nurses is calling on the Missouri legislature to ban COVID-19 vaccine mandates in the workplace. They say it could lead to serious staffing shortages.

Registered Nurse Brittany Hartzell, of Mercy Hospital Springfield, is president of the anti-vax mandate group TakeastandnowMissouri.org. She says her group represents "hundreds of nurses" and "dozens" of doctors around the state.

They're planning a protest in Jefferson City on Sept. 11

"They don't want to take it," Hartzell says. "They want it to be a choice becuase of some of the issues that they are finding with the science that's not being reported."

She says they're concerned about adverse reactions including deaths and hospitalizations, and the lack of any long-term study on the effects of the mRNA spike proteins in the body.

"The spike protein that is circulating is not staying where it is suppose to stay and they're finding that it has heavy concentrations in bone marrows, ovaries and others of those areas."

She says every day at least a dozen fellow nurses and others in the medical field reach out to her personally voice concerns.

"You have nursing students who are dropping out of their programs last semester or are trying to find alternative schools to attend because they are terrified and they really don't want to have this," she say.

While she is choosing not to received the vaccine, she says they are some in the group that have been vaccinated. She says she'll be leaving her facility and already turned in her resignation at her facility. The hospital system is mandating all employees get vaccinated.

She says other groups also pushing for a ban on vaccine mandates will join their protest in Jefferson City.
