Missouri hospital employee stabbed at work, suspect arrested

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KMOX) - Mercy Hospital Springfield was on police lockdown Friday morning after a female employee was stabbed in the surgery center, according to KY3.

Police say the man who stabbed the victim was in a romantic relationship with the woman. He left the scene and was arrested around noon. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Police Lt. Steve Schwind Schwind said the victim was taken to the main Mercy facility nearby for treatment, the Springfield News-Leader reports. He said officers had the building put on lockdown for officers to search for the suspect.

The entire hospital located at 1235 E. Cherokee Street in Springfield, Missouri was lockdown after the incident took place around 7:15 a.m. They made the announcement on Twitter:

"There has been an incident at our surgery center. If you have an early morning appointment, the building is currently under police lockdown. We will share updates as they become available," the hospital stated .

The hospital says it would contact other patients who had appointments this morning to reschedule.
