State of emergency declared in MO Sept 24, 2020

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KMOX) - Missouri Governor Mike Parson on Thursday signed an executive order activating the Missouri National Guard. The Governor's office says the move is a precautionary measure "in response to recent instances of civil unrest across the country."

The order declares a state of emergency in Missouri and puts the National Guard on call to help local authorities "protect life and property".

“We are saddened by recent acts of violence that have occurred in some cities across the nation,” Parson says. “We fully support the right of citizens to peacefully protest and are committed to protecting that right. At this time, we are taking a proactive approach in the event that assistance is needed to support local law enforcement in protecting Missouri and its people.”
