ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX) - A Missouri lawmaker is planning to renew his efforts to abolish personal property taxes across the state.

State Sen. Bill Eigel, representing part of St. Charles County, introduced a similar bill this year that would end personal property taxes in the state by 2026. Twenty-nine other U.S. states currently don't have personal property taxes.

But that bill was amended to only apply in St. Charles County. It advanced in the Senate and it awaiting its next vote.

Eigel is now planning to reintroduce the original measure for it to again to apply to the entire state.

Detractors of the bill say it would cut too much needed funding to local governments and some don't want St. Charles County to be a "guinea pig" for the idea.
