NIXA, Mo. (KMOX) - Some high school students from Missouri had a hand in the design of the annual holiday decor in Washington, D.C. One student's artwork is even hanging on Christmas trees inside the White House, that was unveiled by the First Lady Melania Trump on Monday.
Students in Megan Johnson's art class at Nixa High School were selected to design ornaments for the national Christmas tree in President's Park across the from the White House. Morgan Allen's ornament of an Eastern bluebird – which is the Missouri state bird – was selected to be featured in the White House.
As a fundraiser for the Nixa High School Arts program, students voted on one of the ornament designs to be made into an ornament the public can purchase. The "Huckleberry Finn" design can be yours for a limited time.
Some students even attended the opening ceremony of the America Celebrates display. The ceremony will be virtually broadcast on December 3, 2020 at thenationaltree.org.
