AccuWeather says to expect soaking rain and the risk of flooding starting Thursday evening. They blame it on the same storm that's pounded California. It's on track eastward, hitting the Midwest Thursday and Friday.

Listen to AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore's forecast

AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore says the St. Louis region could see as much as four inches of rainfall. That means the potential for stream and river flooding in spots, as well as issues for drivers with flooding on roads.

National Weather Service Senior Hydrologist Mark Fuchs says the Meramec River at Valley Park, Fenton, Eureka, and Pacific are some of the spots to watch. The Kaskaskia River at Vandalia could also be at risk for fllooding.

He adds he does not expect widespread flash flooding because the heaviest rains will fall over several hours, but flood-prone areas like Joachim Creek could see flash flooding.

A Flood Watch is in effect from Thursday evening into late Friday night.
