Wichita police are investigating what appears to be an accidental shooting, in which a 10-year-old girl was injured.
After 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a shooting at a residence in the 600 block of S. Saint Paul (to the southwest of Maple & Edwards).
Officers located the pre-teen, who had a gunshot wound to her upper body. She was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening injury.
The investigation revealed a 38-year-old man was handling a gun in a bedroom, while the girl was in an adjoining bathroom. While the man was handling the gun, it went off, striking the girl; the girl's 35-year-old mother was also in the bedroom when the gun discharged.
