The state of Kansas now has 11 confirmed cases of coronavirus. The announcement was made Monday during a news conference with Governor Laura Kelly and Dr. Lee Norman, Secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Dr. Norman said the new cases were in Johnson County.

"The three most recent positive test results were all people that were exposed to one other Johnson County person that was identified last week, who had been to a social gathering while not feeling well," said Dr. Norman.

The doctor added that tests were performed on all nursing home staff where one patient died last week and that all tests were negative. Dr. Norman said 234 tests have been performed. The percent of positive cases is 4.7% in Kansas.

Governor Kelly continues to urge social distancing and following CDC guidelines.

"This is an essential further step to further encourage social distancing and stem the spread of the virus. I do not take this action lightly," said Gov. Kelly.

The governor plans to meet today with the Kansas Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association, and the National Federation of Independent Businesses to discuss how the state can best support Kansas businesses and their employees during this time.

Also during the press conference, the governor announced that the Kansas Corporation Commission will not suspend utility disconnects until April 15. To stop jurisdictions outside of the KCC order, the governor has issued an executive order.
