Closings and road hazards in Kansas after winter storm

Closings and road hazards in Kansas after winter storm

A winter storm blanketed much of Kansas with snow. The southwest part of the state was hit hardest with roads closed, school classes cancelled, and snow depth in some places over a foot. Fifteen inches of snow was reported near Liberal.

In south-central Kansas, one to three inches was common with just over one inch officially falling in Wichita.  Early Wednesday morning the Kansas Dept. of Transportation lists the highways in the Wichita area as either "seasonal" or "partially covered." Visit Wichway.org for the current highway information for the Wichita area, or KanDrive.org for state conditions.

The main streets and highways in Wichita remain wet and temperatures remain around freezing with the potential for freezing fog in the forecast Wednesday morning.  Expect the side streets, residential streets, and drives and parking lots to be potentially covered with ice or snow as well.

There are a few school closings and delays, mainly outside of the Wichita area.  Click here for a full, updated listing.
