Sedgwick County leaders project Intrust Bank Arena could lose $1.1 million in 2021.
That loss comes as the county approved a new management agreement with SMG, who will receive $200 thousand to continue that role in 2021. County leaders say they're hopeful for a rebound in events during the second half of next year.
Lindsey Poe Rousseau, the county's Chief Financial Officer, told commissioners any operating losses would be covered by the county's sales tax revenue fund and not the general fund.
We did learn that the county will allow 11.5 percent capacity for Wichita Thunder hockey games, with new health and safety measures and procedures enacted. The Thunder's home opener is scheduled for New Year’s Day.
