Juvenile arrested multiple times in Derby and Wichita

One 14-year-old boy has been arrested multiple times by police in Wichita and Derby since Saturday.  It began at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, officers from the Derby Police arrested the 14-year-old juvenile in possession of a vehicle that had been stolen in Wichita on Saturday morning.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, WPD officers responded to a suspicious character with a weapon call in the 2700 block of North Greenwich, regarding two juveniles attempting to enter a locked vehicle. During the investigation of the call, WPD officers located and arrested the 14-year-old who was seen running away from a stolen vehicle that had been left running earlier on Sunday. 

At approximately 7:20 a.m. Monday, WPD officers responded to an auto theft at a business in the 3400 block of South West Street after keys were left in a vehicle. The 14-year-old entered the vehicle and fled, striking the 22-year-old male owner in the process. The vehicle owner sustained minor injuries.  WPD officers quickly located the stolen vehicle and arrested the 14-year-old without further incident. The 14-year-old was booked into the Juvenile Detention Facility for auto theft and aggravated battery.

The 14-year-old has also been listed and cleared as a runaway eight times this month. The WPD is reminding all citizens not to leave vehicles running unattended and not to leave keys in an unlocked car. The investigations are ongoing, and they will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
