The Kansas Department of Labor released a statement Tuesday about a text message scam. The message has a Kansas Department of Labor logo and claims to be a "Labor Survey Questionnaire." This is not from the Kansas Department of Labor and no links should be clicked, the text message should be deleted immediately.
According to the statement, the agency is investigating the fraudulent text. They say Kansas, along with every other state, is seeing a spike in identity theft related to unemployment claims. Anyone who has been the victim of the scam is asked to report it at ReportFraud.ks.gov.
As a reminder, KDOL will never ask for anyone's full Social Security Number. They will only ask for the last four digits or the claim ID number.
