Kansas is facing another round of strong to severe thunderstorms today, with the greatest threat expected across central and eastern parts of the state.
Showers and storms are moving across Kansas this morning, but meteorologists say additional, potentially stronger storms will develop later in the afternoon and evening. Some storms could produce damaging wind gusts, small hail and an isolated tornado.
The greatest severe weather threat is expected along and east of a line from Russell to Pratt. In the Wichita area, storms are expected to arrive after 4 p.m. and move out by around 10 p.m., possibly sooner.
The storms will move through with a strong cold front. Temperatures are expected to reach the middle 70s today before dropping significantly for Election Day Tuesday. Highs will only reach the upper 50s, with strong north winds making it feel even colder.
Wichita-area forecast:
- Monday: Cloudy and windy with scattered showers and storms. High near 75. South winds at 20 to 30 mph.
- Monday night: Evening storms, some possibly severe. Low near 53.
- Tuesday: Early showers followed by cloudy, windy and cooler conditions. High near 59, with northwest winds at 20 to 30 mph.
- Wednesday: Sunny and milder. High near 67.
- Thursday: Partly cloudy with a high near 65.
- Friday: Mostly sunny with a high near 68.
- Saturday: Partly cloudy and mild, with a high near 69.
- Sunday: Cooler and breezy, with a high near 60.
Temperatures will rebound Wednesday, with highs in the middle to upper 60s expected through Friday. Another cold front will move through Kansas Sunday, bringing cooler temperatures and gusty winds, but no precipitation is expected.
Residents should stay weather-aware this afternoon and evening, particularly in areas where severe storms are possible.
