Here are the local COVID-19 numbers for Wenesday, June 24, 2020:

Kansas, with a total population of more than 2.9 million people, has recorded nearly 13,000 positive cases of the virus, up 3.9% from Monday; that's a higher rate.


47% of the state's positive cases, and 75% of the deaths, have come from clusters of COVID-19. A cluster is defined as "two or more non-household COVID-19 cases identified in a certain timeframe and place." Nearly eight dozen of those clusters have occurred in private businesses, and 49 of those clusters are still active, eight more than on Monday.

24% of Kansas COVID-19 cases have come from meatpacking plants; that number has slightly decreased.

57% of Kansas COVID-19 deaths have come in long-term care facilities; that number is up 1% from Monday.

5.5% of all Kansas residents have been tested. 

Among those tested in the state, 92% have tested negative for the coronavirus, and 8% positive; those percentages have remained steady.

The state says fewer than 12% of cases have required hospitalization; that percentage has remained steady.

There have been nearly 1,100 hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Kansas, up 2% from Monday; 26 added patients have been hospitalized since Monday.

The state reports two more deaths from the virus since Monday (up less than 1%); there have been 261 deaths in the state. Among the positive cases in Kansas, 2% have resulted in death; that percentage has remained steady. The median age for COVID-19 fatalities in Kansas is 79 years of age.

Sedgwick County has recorded more than 900 positive cases, adding 41 new cases (up 4.6%), a much higher rate from last week.There have been 26 COVID-19 deaths in Sedgwick County, with one more death since Monday. Among the cases in Sedgwick County, 2.8% have resulted in death; that percentage remains steady.

Fewer than 5% of Sedgwick County residents have been tested for COVID-19.

9% of the state's positive cases have been recorded in Sedgwick County and its surrounding counties; that number has recenty been increasing.

The highest number of daily cases (38) peaked in Sedgwick County nearly two months ago. However, the County recorded 31 new cases on Monday, the first time that number exceeded 30 in a month-and-a-half.

The peak for the rolling 14-day average of the positive percentage of all tests in Sedgwick County came more than two months ago on April 19th, at 12%; that percentage bottomed out below 1% nearly a month ago, but for more than four weeks now it has gradually been going back up; it's now at nearly 3.7%.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in Sedgwick County peaked more than two-and-a-half months ago, in early April. Seven first-admission hospitalizations were recorded in Sedgwick County during the third week of June.

The age range with the highest percentage of hospitalizations in Kansas (21%) are those between the ages of 55-64.

The age range with the highest percentages of positive cases requiring hospitalization in Kansas are those 75-84, with 46% of those cases requiring hospitalization.

The age range with the most positive cases in Kansas (19.5%) are those between the ages of 25-34. In that age range, 3.9% of cases require hospitalization; that number has ticked up slightly.

Among COVID-19 cases in Kansas, fewer than 3% have required placement in the ICU, and 1.2% required mechanical ventilation.
