The Wichita City Council approved more funding for the new water treatment facility under construction in the northwest part of the city.
State revolving funds, or loans, will cover 48% of the project, around $267.3 million. The new facility will cost $553 million total and will replace the city's 80-year-old water plant.
City officials estimate they'll save around $70 million by using loans instead of revenue bonds.
The new plant, expected to be completed by September 2024, will be able to treat 120 million gallons of water per day.
