The Sedgwick County Salvation Army is set to receive shipment of 357 fans on Tuesday morning.
Westlake Ace Hardware at Hillside & Douglas in E. Wichita recently hosted a fan drive to benefit The Salvation Army, and Wichita customers donated $4,600 to purchase new box fans to help their fellow residents.
Rising temperatures can quickly deplete the Salvation Army’s fan supply and with summer in full swing, the Army's work of distributing fans is far from over. During the fan drive, Westlake customers were asked to donate by rounding-up their purchases at the register. Nationwide, a record-setting $130,000 was donated.
Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year, as 82 cents of every dollar The Salvation Army spends is used to support services in 5,000 communities nationwide.
