At its meeting this week, the Sedgwick County Commission approved the addition of two emergency response vehicles to the EMS fleet, enabling EMS to provide advance live saving (ALS) first response to west and southwest areas of the county.

Once the vehicles are acquired, equipped, and operational, EMS ALS response times are expected to improve to areas furthest away from established EMS Posts and Sedgwick County Fire District 1 Stations.

Commissioners approved $125,000 to purchase and equip the two vehicles using federal CARES funding. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act, is intended to address the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.
