Sedgwick County asking for the public's help with coronavirus testing

Sedgwick County asking for the public's help with coronavirus testing

The Sedgwick County Health Department is asking for the public's help in tracking the spread of coronavirus in the county. Beginning Monday, June 8th the department is partnering with a call center to call 16-hundred randomly-selected Sedgwick County residents and ask them to be tested regardless of symptoms.

Residents who choose to participate will be asked to provide basic information and then schedule an appointment for testing. On the appointment day, the person will go through the health department's drive-through sampling site where a swab will be collected. The swab will be sent to a laboratory for testing and the health department will provide the results of the tests three to four days later. The test will be offered at no cost to residents.

The call center will reach out to people across demographic categories such as race, age, and income. The testing will identify residents with active coronavirus infection on the day the nasopharyngeal swab was collected. A second random sample study will occur in mid-July. Results will be compared to the June study to determine if the spread of coronavirus across the county has changed.
