The Sedgwick County Commission passed an emergency measure to pay for repairs to the Sedgwick County Courthouse.
The fire broke out on January 18 and caused damage on the 3rd and 4th floors of the courthouse in downtown Wichita. The fire was caused by an electrical short.
Kevin Stamper, Assistant County Counselor, explained why the county needed to act quickly on the repairs. That would allow us to go ahead and expend those funds, without having to put everything through bid board and delay the efforts to go ahead and repair the parts of the courthouse," he said.
The county will spend in excess of $25,000. An official damage estimate has not yet been determined.
