Sedgwick County Commissioners amended the Sedgwick County public health order at a meeting Friday.
The board voted 3-2 to close down all businesses that are not bars and nightclubs licensed to sell alcohol by midnight each night. On Wednesday, the Sedgwick County Commission voted to remove Dr. Minns' initial order that directed restaurants serving alcohol to close at 12:01 a.m.
The new order will take effect Saturday, July 25 at 2 a.m. The order will last until Aug. 21 but will be looked at by the commission each week.
A motion was also made to exempt schools from the mask order. The motion failed 3-2.
Earlier this week, Dr. Garold Minns, Sedgwick County's health officer, signed a new order to further reduce the spread of COVID-19 as a result of continued increases in COVID-19 cases in Sedgwick County, which is outpacing the state of Kansas and national numbers. The order limits gatherings and closes bars or clubs.
