Small plane lands on highway in Kansas City suburb

Authorities say a small plane was forced to land on an interstate in suburban Kansas City after an engine apparently failed. The plane landed on Interstate 470 in Lee's Summit Tuesday afternoon. Lee's Summit police say the pilot was the only one aboard and he was not injured. Police said the plane is a twin-engine Bonanza based at Lee's Summit Municipal Airport. The highway patrol said the pilot was making his final approach to the Lee's Summit airport when one of the plane's two engines suddenly failed.
