Police are investigating a double-murder near downtown Wichita.
After midnight Thursday, officers responded to the call of a shooting at the Hotel at WaterWalk south of Main & Kellogg. They found two people dead from multiple gunshot wounds; the victims were a 22-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man.
Investigators say the victims were inside the hotel room when a suspect entered and fired multiple shots at them, then ran away. Witnesses described the suspect as a black male wearing dark clothing, 5'9" to 5'10" tall, and having a medium build.
Investigators believe this was not a random event, that the victims and the suspect did know each other, and that this was not drug- nor gang-related. There were no signs of forced entry into the hotel room.
There have been 13 criminal homicide cases in Wichita during the past seven weeks.
