The Wichita City Council approved $4 million for the I-135, I-235, K-254 and K-96 north junction project.
The interchange carries almost 100,000 vehicles daily, with a rise to 160,000 vehicles per day expected in the future. The total price tag is $30.22 million, with Sedgwick County contributing $3.78 million and the rest will be paid by the state.
The city says work on the first phase of the project will begin next spring and the entire interchange will be completed by 2025.
