The Wichita area is under a Winter Weather Advisory from Thursday evening through early Friday afternoon, with freezing rain, rain, sleet, and snow in the forecast.
City of Wichita road crews have been pre-treating streets with de-icer, a salt/water mix. All five dozen trucks are now on duty throughout the storm.
Once ice develops, the trucks will be putting down a salt/sand mix, or brine, depending on the conditions at the time.
Some models indicate the most active part of the storm to hit during the Friday-morning commute.
