One man has died after a fire at a four-plex in Haysville. It happened in the 100 block of W. Sarah Lane, near Main Street.
The initial call came out after 12:30 a.m. Thursday, with reports of a fire, and a person trapped inside.
Firefighters with Sedgwick County Fire District 1 arrived to find one of the four units on fire, and entered the building; they found the male victim dead inside that unit. The other three units were vacant. On scene, firefighters noted the ramp outside the burned unit had a handicap ramp.
Firefighters knocked the fire down quickly, but with the extreme heat, they rotated crews in and out to keep them hydrated and safe. Crews had the fire under control in less than a half-hour.
