The Kansas Department of Transportation will receive $500,000 from the federal government to support a development plan for passenger rail service between Oklahoma City and Newton, passing through Wichita. Mayor Brandon Whipple tells KNSS News putting a plan together for rail service for Wichita has been a -- quote -- "roller coaster"... with lots of confusion and "train politics" over the past few years. "Now it seems it's a go", says Whipple. Wichita last had passenger rail service in 1979.
At Tuesday's meeting, the Wichita City Council will discuss a 1.5 million-dollar plan to curb violence. Wichita State University and Wichita Police have been working on the program that would help predict violent events and prevent them from taking place. The city would target two high-crime areas of town.
Whipple commented during Mondays with the Mayor ... on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
