It snowed across much of the state of Kansas on Tuesday; the eastern half of the state picked up the highest snowfall totals.

In south-central Kansas, Sterling received 10.5 inches of snow, and eight inches fell in the McPherson area.

Snowfalls of 7½ inches were recorded in E. Wichita, Valley Center, Haven (in Reno County), and Douglass (in Butler County).

Wichita's official measurement for the date came from Eisenhower Airport in W. Wichita, recorded at 5.4 inches.

Nearly the entire state is under an extreme cold warning through Thursday morning.

Wednesday's forecast high temperature in Wichita is 8°; that will shatter the previous record for the coldest high-temperature for February 19th, which was a high of 20° in the year 1889.

The forecast low temperature for Wichita in the early morning hours on Thursday is expected to bottom out at about -7°, which would also easily surpass another record for the date from more than a century ago (a low of 3° in 1918).
