A man has died after a deputy-involved shooting southwest of Wichita.
At about 5:30 a.m. Monday, Sedgwick County deputies responded to the report of a shirtless man holding a handgun in the road near 55th Street South & Hoover Road.
Deputies located the armed 32-year-old man near the intersection, and tried to de-escalate the situation for several minutes. The sheriff’s office says the man fired at deputies, striking at least one patrol vehicle, then deputies returned fire, shooting the man multiple times.
EMS took the man to a hospital, where he died.
