Sumner County authorities are searching for a missing driver after flood waters swept a vehicle off the road.
It happened just after 3 p.m. Saturday on south Oliver Road, southeast of Wellington. Deputies say that the driver hydroplaned into a flooded ditch after passing multiple barricades.
Flood waters swept the car to a nearby bridge, pinning it there. When emergency crews pulled the car free, the driver was gone.
A Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter was called in to search for the driver, but came up empty. The sheriff’s office suspended the search for the night and resumed it this morning.
The driver is from out of state.
