The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a body was recovered from Lake Afton on Saturday afternoon.
A little after 2 p.m., a deputy patrolling Lake Afton Park was contacted by a person who reported an unidentified object floating in the water near the dam on the south side of the lake. Deputies were unable to identify the object and requested help from Sedgwick County Fire District 1.
Their crews deployed a boat and recovered a man's body from the water. A positive identification was not possible, due to the condition of the body. At this time, it's unknown if the remains are that of Ian Shelton, who went missing near the lake in early December.
The remains were taken to the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center where an autopsy will be performed.
