Crews from Wichita, Sedgwick County, and Valley Center fought to put out a building fire early Wednesday morning on the west side of Park City.
The fire was in the 300 block of W. 61st Street North, northwest of 61st & Broadway; EMS transported one person to a Wichita hospital in critical condition.
Fire personnel arrived after 6:00 a.m., met by one occupant of the metal building serving as a car shop, along with a loft where people live. Crews were able to pull another occupant out of the burning structure through a window.
There were four dogs pulled from the building, but one did not survive.
With fire burning inside the metal structure, firefighters tried to contain it from the outside. The building is now unusable, with extensive charring on the exterior, and a collapsing roof. It took about an hour to bring the fire under control.
