One person has died after a bulldozer became fully submerged under the water of a neighborhood lake in the northwest part of Wichita; it happened in the 2800 block of W. Keywest Street, to the west of the 4700 block of N. Meridian.

At about 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, there was the report from a construction site that a bulldozer and possibly its operator had gone into the water.

Rescue teams, including divers and their equipment, were on the lake and in the water.

First responders located the bulldozer under the water around noon. Within a half hour, they also found a victim. Emergency workers tried to revive the victim, who died at the scene.

The scene of the rescue amid sand and mud was challenging to get to for rescue workers.

The Wichita Fire Department asked that people avoid the area.
