The Wichita City Council approved $900,000 for design, right-of-way and construction costs of Hoover Road, from Zoo Boulevard to 29th Street North.
The project would convert the current two-lane roadway to three lanes, with a center turning lane. It would also add a 10-foot-wide multi-use path on the east side of the roadway and a 6-foot-wide sidewalk on the west side.
Construction is planned for 2023. The city will keep one lane of traffic open during the project.
The city council also approved $6.9M for the design and pre-purchasing of equipment for the Hess Pump station. The city says the 21 valves at the station are in need of repair or replacement. The five-phase project will likely take around 3 years to complete. The city wants the project to be done prior to the completion of the Northwest water treatment facility.
Finally, the city deferred a vote on the ict21 Redevelopment District at 21st Street North and I-135. The developers plan around 1 million square feet of new construction over the next several years, using nearly $6 million in tax increment financing. New council member Maggie Ballard made the motion to move the discussion to February 15th, to allow the council to study the plan further.
