The city of Wichita will receive an independent cultural and operational review of its police department.

The $214 thousand deal with Jensen Hughes, one of the nation's top law enforcement consulting firms, was approved Tuesday by the city council. Over the next few months, the Chicago-based firm will gather community input, study data, review department policies and procedures then provide recommendations on best practices with identifiable and measurable outcomes.
The firm has reviewed other police departments in Louisville, Minneapolis, Denver and San Francisco.
Council member Brandon Johnson served on the committee that recommended Jensen Hughes and said the firm isn't out to point fingers at individuals.
The council will get monthly updates and a final report on the findings will be completed in 5-6 months.
