“Serious, identified safety issues” have led to the immediate closure by the city of Wichita for the Economy Hotel Plus in western part of the city.
In a statement from the city, Wichita Police, the Wichita Fire Department, the community and the state fire marshal raised concerns for several months at the hotel located in the 5800 block of W. Kellogg Drive, west of Kellogg and I-235. On Wednesday, a woman was hospitalized after being shot there.
Numerous members of city staff were onsite Friday night, assisting people displaced from the hotel.
The city shut down the facility after the owner failed to abate identified issues. The city cited frequent and serious criminal concerns as well.
