Financial reports for the city of Wichita continue to look positive...for now.

City leaders say factors like strong growth in property tax, salary savings and interest earnings ultimately means $11 million will be transferred to their stabilization reserve, which acts as the city's savings account. The balance in that account currently stands at roughly $39 million.

The city expects interest earnings to decline with time as rates are lowered, but perhaps not as quickly as forecast previously in 2024.

While the 2025 budget is balanced, the city still forecasts budget deficits starting in 2026 and continuing into 2027 and beyond.
